After a brief recovery in recent days, most of the major crypto currencies are back in the red. By contrast, Bitcoin (BTC) spent more than $ 3,600 at press deadline for the third consecutive day.
Bitcoin has moved sideways in the last 24 hours before the editorial deadline. The transaction volume was also positive. It almost reached numbers as found in January 2018. At the time, a bitcoin had a value of nearly $ 20,000.
Ripple XRP lost 3 percent. At the time of writing, the price was around $ 0.30. The market capitalization of Ripple XRP had also suffered a bit. It stood at $ 12.5 billion. The day before, it was still 12.7 billion USD. However, the slump was not so great that Ethereum (ETH) could have supplanted Ripple XRP again from the second list of largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization. Nevertheless, both cryptocurrencies continue to race head-to-head for 2nd place.
The Ethereum price rose slightly. The third largest cryptocurrency has gained about 2 percent and stood at around USD 121 per coin at the time of writing.
The overall market and the other big cryptocurrencies
The overall market capitalization of the crypto markets peaked at just over $ 122 billion on February 9. In the course of the general decline, it lost about $ 2 billion. At the time of going to press, it was $ 121.1 billion. The trading volume of the last 24 hours before the editorial deadline was approximately $ 20 billion.
Among the 20 largest cryptocurrencies, there were only two that were on the rise. These two were the Binance Coin (BNB) and Maker (MKR). The Binance Coin is currently ranked 10th on the list of the largest cryptocurrencies. Since February 6, the coin has gained more and more value. At times, the increase was almost 7 percent. The trading price stood at 9.2 USD at the time of writing. Maker, on the other hand, had gained 3.2 percent over the day, moving around $ 450.
The other big cryptocurrencies were mostly in the red. The biggest losers were Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Tron (TRX). Both have made about 4 percent.
News from the crypt world
Intercontinental Exchange CEO Jeffrey Sprecher has announced news regarding the planned Bakkt crypto platform. Sprecher stated that the much-anticipated platform will be released later in 2019.
Next, Hester Peirce, the representative of the Securities and Exchange Commission, has taken an interesting position in a speech. She believed that the lack of a clear regulatory framework would benefit the crypto industry. This offers a chance to mature, she said. Peirce is also nicknamed “Crypto-Mama” among crypto-friends due to her positive attitude towards the industry.
