The US crypto-exchange Coinbase has set a new milestone. The company issues its own Visa customer card. This allows Coinbase customers to easily use their cryptoassets for daily payments. Initially, the card will be available in the UK.
Coinbase writes in a blog entry:
“Customers can use their maps to millions of locations around the world. You can pay contactless and via chip and PIN and withdraw money from ATMs. When customers use their Coinbase Card, we immediately convert cryptocurrency into fiat money, such as pounds sterling, with which to settle the transaction. “
Next it said:
“This is the first loyalty card directly linked to a large crypto exchange in the UK and the EU. This allows users to directly print the crypto currencies in their accounts. “
With the new Bitcoin card comes also a new App
At the same time, Coinbase has released a new app that allows users to manage their accounts. The crypto exchange explained:
“To help customers keep track of their spend, we also released the Coinbase Card app. This allows users to specify which of their crypto-wallets they want to use to settle the spend. The Coinbase-Card supports all available on the Coinbase platform for purchase and sale cryptoassets [means: Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin and Bitcoin Cash]. Users can therefore pay for a meal with Bitcoin or use Ethereum to pay for a train ticket home. In addition, the app also offers instant invoices, transaction overviews, issue categories and more. “
The card is issued by Paysafe Financial Services Limited. The company has a license from the UK Financial Market Authority, the Financial Conduct Authority. Coinbase issues the issuing fee to the first customers who sign up for the card.
The company said:
“To celebrate the launch of the Coinbase Card, we are issuing the £ 4.95 card issuing fee to the first 1,000 people enrolled on the waiting list. Coinbase customers can now download the iOS and Android app and securely link it to their Coinbase account. Once linked, they can immediately use their crypto credits on Coinbase via the virtual card. We will then send you the contactless card by post. “
In the future, Coinbase wants to offer its card in other European countries. Nothing is known about plans for publication outside Europe.
