Rusty Russell, Bitcoin developer, posted on his Twitter account Friday that he discovered a vulnerability in several Lightning Network (LN) implementations that could lead to a loss of funds. For that reason, he urged users to update the software.
According to Russell, users of the Eclair portfolio of the French startup ACINQ, c-lightning of Blockstream and the lnd client of Lightning Labs urgently need to update the software .

The developer added that the details of the vulnerability in the Lightning Network software will be released in a few weeks , on 27 of September.
ACINQ representatives thanked Russell for the information provided:
“A vulnerability has been found and corrected in several LN projects, including Eclair,” they wrote before inviting users to perform the update.

Upon request for comments Russell asked to wait for the newsletter that would be published in Bitcoin Optech that frequently disseminates research, studies, analysis of Bitcoin software and services. At the time of writing this note, the aforementioned newsletter had not been published.
C-lightning, launched in mid-July is one of several technological improvements aimed at making Bitcoin Lightning Network transactions cheaper, faster and safer.
