The Stuttgart Stock Exchange is the second largest stock exchange in Germany. Now the stock market has taken another step into the future. Investors can now trade there with Exchange-traded Notes (ETNs) on Litecoin and Ripple XRP.
The stock market stated in a press release:
“Interest in cryptocurrencies remains high. With the ETNs, investors in Germany can now for the first time participate in the performance of the major cryptocurrencies Litecoin and Ripple (XRP) via exchange-traded securities. “
Exchange-traded notes (ETNs) are bank-issued bearer bonds that are traded on the stock exchange. The ETNs form a reference index. The special thing about these papers is that the index is very flexible and can be linked to many different fundamentals.
Observers believe that the current bid expansion will increase the liquidity of Litecoin and Ripple XRP. At the same time, the interest of accredited investors and possibly also that of the financial institutions should increase.
Billions of investors rely on ETNs
At the end of 2017, multi-billion dollar investor Mark Cuban had confirmed to Bloomberg that he had invested in Bitcoin via an ETN. He did that on a Swedish stock exchange. So Cuban said:
“That's interesting, because there are many assets whose value depends only on supply and demand. Most stocks have no intrinsic value because they do not confer ownership and voting rights on the holder. You can easily buy and sell these stocks. Bitcoin is the same. The course is based on supply and demand. I bought something [Bitcoin] through an ETN on a Swedish stock exchange. “
The company that manages these ETNs on the Swedish Stock Exchange also does so on the Stuttgart Stock Exchange.
Litecoin on the upswing
From the beginning of the year to the editorial deadline, Litecoin's share price rose 183 percent against the US dollar. Above all, analysts attribute this achievement to their focus on finding solutions to protect privacy.
At the end of January 2019, Litecoin creator Charlie Lee said:
“fungibility” is the only property of sound money that Bitcoin and Litecoin lack. Now that the scaling debate is behind us, the next scenes are the fungibility and privacy protection. I am now focusing on making Litecoin fungibler by allowing confidential transactions. “
