One of the largest and most well-known relief organizations, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), has now also opened up to cryptocurrencies. UNICEF France announces on its website that from now on donations in nine large cryptocurrencies are accepted. This puts the French sub-organization at the forefront of UNICEF ranks.
The UNICEF France official website states:
“Blockchain technology can improve the world. Following the success of the Game Chaingers campaign, UNICEF France is now going one step further and giving cryptocurrency owners the opportunity to help the world's children through a cryptocurrency donation. “
Among the nine crypto currencies accepted by UNICEF France are Bitcoin (BTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Litecoin (LTC). Also accepted are Ethereum (ETH), Ripple XRP, EOS, Stellar Lumens (XLM), Monero (XMR) and Dash.
UNICEF was founded in 1946 and since 1953 bears the name “United Nations Children's Fund” (UNICEF). The relief organization is based in New York, USA. The foundation for the current acceptance of cryptocurrencies was laid by the UNICEF campaign “Game Chaingers”. This campaign ran from February 2 to March 31, 2018 and was designed to open up new ways to donate for free. At its core, it was about donors using their graphics to mine Ethereum for Syrian children. This made the campaign the first crypto fundraiser. Millions of computer gamers and members of the e-sports community participated in the campaign worldwide.
This caused UNICEF Australia to start a similar campaign in May. It runs on “The Hopepage” and allows site visitors to allocate some of their computing power to mine and donate cryptocurrency.
Following the success of the Game Chaingers project, UNICEF France is offering donors two ways to donate. The first option is to mine cryptocurrencies. So donors can mine a cryptocurrency of their choice and give it to UNICEF children worldwide. In this way, UNICEF wants to give those humanitarian aid a chance that can not afford itself in monetary terms. The donors only have to enter the address of the e-wallet of UNICEF France in their mining software. Then simply mine the chosen cryptocurrency and automatically send the proceeds to the UNICEF electronic wallet.
The second option is to donate directly in cryptocurrencies.
At the time of going to press, UNICEF Germany had not yet discovered donations via cryptocurrencies. But it can be assumed that, if successful, all other UNICEF sub-organizations will also introduce this possibility.
