Wait, what? Ripple Partner Santander Bank declares that it will use Ripple XRP for money transfers to 19 countries

The Spanish Santander bank has tweeted the crypto community with a tweet. Later, however, it turned out that the tweet was ambiguously formulated.

On Twitter, “wes G” Santander in the UK had asked how the company is progressing with the use of Ripple XRP for payments. Santander answered:

Hey Wes, we're doing great. We are using XRP for international payments to 18 EU countries and the USA. This is our iPhone app called One Pay FX. ^ TC

“Hi Wes, everything is going great. We use [Ripple] XRP for international payments in 18 EU and US states. This is done via our iPhone app called One Pay FX. “

One Pay FX is Santander's consumer payment service. The bank introduced it in April of last year.

Next Santander has always said that one uses the ripple solution xCurrent for One Pay FX, which is not based on Ripple XRP. A newer solution, xRapid, does. For the surprised community, it seemed as if Santander meanwhile had quietly switched to xRapid.

Less than 24 hours, however, the error had apparently come through. The company therefore posted a correction on Twitter. It said:

We are sorry, unfortunately due to a misunderstanding we have been given incorrect information. We do apologize for the confusion. One Pay FX uses xCurrent only. You can find out more here: https://t.co/EGWMMqZhkA.

“We apologize. Unfortunately, due to a misunderstanding, we have issued false information. We apologize for the resulting confusion. One Pay FX only uses xCurrent. More information can be found here: (…) “

The Santander Strategy with Ripple

The Santander Bank has recognized early on the possibilities of cryptocurrencies and blockchain. Therefore, they cooperate with Ripple Labs and uses xCurrent for cross-border money transfers. The bank seems willing to take the step into the future. Nevertheless, Santander is also careful and at the same time relies on the existing Swift system and its new solution.

The way the bank finally decides remains to be seen.

Ripple Labs has had many successes this past year and this year. That the supposed change of Santander turned out to be a misunderstanding, should therefore be to get over.
